It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Yesterday, I decided that I wanted to get out of Philly for a day and head to New York. Not to go anywhere specific, but to just get out of the city. I kinda felt like I was being consumed with the hipster explosion thats been running rampant lately. I needed a getaway. I wanted to meet new people, see new things, and take pictures of it all (because I’m a photographer..duhhh lol). I felt like the only way that I could expand was by constantly taking trips to other places. Kinda got to a point were i felt like I was seeing the same people at events over, and over, and over, and over again. What I didn’t realize was that there is soooooo many things happening in Philly, but people don’t know about them because they always hear about the “cool” events from their friends…which is the reason why we constantly bump into the same type of people.
A few weeks ago I heard about a Joe Budden concert that was scheduled for this saturday as well. I didn’t remember about it until today. Coincidentally, I spoke with my co worker to see if she was going to head out to New York with me on Saturday and she informed me about a “Global Fusion Festival” that was happening at Penns Landing the same day. I was like “ummmm wtf is sooo special about this Global Fusion mess” lol. Come to find out some of my favorite artists like Kendrick Lamar, Elle Varner, Brandy, Kenny Latimore, and others would be performing. I dropped my jaw and said “EFF THIS IM STAYING IN PHILLY!” lol
As soon as I found out I immediately went on Facebook posting a status about how hype I was about going lol. When I posted my status I actually tagged the company that was going to have the Joe Budden concert. Me being the weird guy that I am, I decided to ask for the company’s email about being their designated event photographer because I was going to be jobless in a month…kinda needed a gig that would not only be of some exposure, but also be something that I loved. I told em to check out my website and hit me up if they needed help…they responded super happily and was like pick one of our upcoming events and we’ll give you a media/press pass. I looked on the line up and saw the Joe Budden concert…now I’ll be doing press for it!…ON THE STAAAGE NIGGA! lol
Also, as soon as I found out I tweeted my homeboy at hiphopsince1987 (philadelphias BIGGEST hiphop website/blog) and asked him if he was going to the Global Fusion Festival…he didnt even know about it lol. A few hours later, he tweeted me and was like “check your email”. I looked and this guy was able to get press releases for the entire weekend! He… just like the blockley’s rep, said “pick an event and I’ll give you media/ press passes.” I almost shat myself lol. Instead of being in the crowd… im ON THE STAAAGE NIGGA! lol
It’s insane how everything played out. I went from being angry about constantly seeing the same people and wanting a getaway…to being introduced to new people…finding out about awesome events…and eventually becoming part of the event….all in like 6 hours lol…now I see why they call this the city of brotherly love…despite our differences…we always look out for each other.
